Join us for a class at Neighborhood Barre and one of the most frequent words you will hear is "tuck". As in "Be sure to tuck those hips, ladies!"
A tuck is when we we draw in our lower abs to create a "scooped out" stomach. This move is very important for both the effectiveness of our workout and safety.
First, a tuck allows you to keep a neutral, supported spine, which keeps your body and spine properly aligned for the entire workout. Our goal is to ensure that you not only look better, but also feel better after a Neighborhood Barre class!
Second, the tuck engages the abs by creating a counter resistance in the body and ensures our core is used during the entire workout. Creating a tuck during class requires us to constantly engage our abs and core, leading to a greater increase strength and results. Think of it as an entire workout for your core.
Of course, if you have any questions on how to "tuck" or when to use it during a Neighborhood Barre class, your Nb instructor can assist. See you at the Barre!
